S.O.S. Dinobot! Part 3

.

Step 2: The Hard Part

No. Bad Sunstreaker. Not a joke for you.

This step was almost named “The Pain in the Ass”, but that would’ve just been worse…

.

Regardless, this is the hardest part in the whole mod. Galvatron transformation level of hard, and concept camero Bumblebee ‘why won’t these alt-mode parts line up’ level of frustration. So go nice and easy, and take breaks in between things. (Unless you’ve got a dremel, in which case just go carefully.)

This is also going to be tricky to describe, but I’ve got detailed pictures and if you’ve got the parts in hand (this post is just full of dirty references…) you should be able to figure it out. You may even want to wait and read the whole guide before you attempt this mod. Not to worry, the mace part of S.O.S. Dinobot! has only a couple more posts.

Whatever option you’ve chosen, at least be sure to read this step completely before you actually try it.

Now break out your instruments of torture and lets get carving!

First up we’re going to do the flames.

Before I start explaining, here’s a before and after shot of the flames from the two main angles.

Now here’s a couple of pictures diagramming what you need to cut.

.

Cut on the red lines, keeping in mind the previous pictures of how it should look afterwards. If you’re having trouble visualizing the second image, here’s an alteration with the parts to be cut off shown colored in red.

Here’s where the part about reading the whole step first comes in handy. See those blue sections? Those are the thick blocks at the bottom of the flame that serve to keep the bottom of the mace from having two holes next to the handle. I’ve colored them in blue as a reminder for you to save them.

Carve carefully around them, then put them aside for later. Got that?

.

So to recap, you should have a heavily carved flame piece and two orange blocks.

.

Come back tomorrow for more carving fun in part 4 and step 3 of S.O.S. Dinobot!
