Simmons Was Right! – Bruticus

Saturday, September 26th, 2009

Agent Simmons of Sector 7 – a visionary to some, a crackpot to others, and an underwear pioneer to all!

During his time protecting the free world from frozen doom, Agent Simmons became increasingly aware of patterns- a symbol here, a hieroglyph there, a rusted out bumper amid a clutch of fossilized woolly mammoth eggs – patterns which could tie directly into maybe possibly indicating that nbes might have visited earth before the arrival of nbe1 or even the cube!

But did anyone believe him?

Not even his mother!

Not even Sector 7, bastion and bulwark of a nation’s secrets, vanguard against frightening metal monsters and the potentially frightened fleshy freedom they might desperately want to destroy!

But we know…

Simmons was right!

Better Transformation – ROTF Universe Bruticus

Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009

I wasn’t sure what to put for the title of this post, other than the obvious bits about Bruticus and the transformation. According to the tfwiki it’s a Universe release, but complicating things further it’s pretty much a restock of the ROTF version, right down to the box being done in ROTF style.

I think I’ll go with OAFE on this one and consider it part of the Classics series. (Check out that link for Yo Go Re’s review, and check out TFW2005’s feedback thread too.) It’s a direct repaint of Bruticus Maximus from the Energon line, but the color scheme’s been improved- all the homage with none of the clash!

But this site’s not known for tf reviews, so lets get down to it!

ROTF Jetfire – GERWALK?

Wednesday, September 16th, 2009

If you read reviews of ROTF Jetfire, you’ll hear about how the SR71 Blackbird mode is impressive (it is), how it’s friggin huge (it is), and how it’s basically a robot stuck under a plane (it kind of is).

I say ‘kind of’ because it’s quite a bit of kibble, but it’s not entirely obvious that it’s a robot. He’s more complicated than Silverbolt, but the alt mode is almost completely separate from the robot. If things were detachable, you’d have a Big Convoy situation going on.

ROTF Swerve – Head Fix

Repaints! If you listen to some, they’re the bane of the completest toy collector, and proof that HasTak is an uncaring, corporate vampire out to drain your wallet dry. If you listen to others, repaints are a sign that HasTak loves us, and like that dreamy sparkly kid in biology they only want a taste of what’s in your pants.

“You’re still talking about the wallet, right?”

Huh? Oh, yeah… *sigh*

“Sarcasm?”

Sarcasm.

“Phew!”

ROTF Jolt – Head Fix

Monday, September 7th, 2009

Jolt! If ever there was a tf that could benefit from some well placed leds, Jolt would be it. Even with all the lost paint apps on the final toy, some internal leds could really light up that mostly hollow and very translucent blue chest.

The MOAR You Know – MISB

Tuesday, September 1st, 2009

When I collect transformers, most of the time I get them MISB, or Mint In Sealed Box. Often they’re that way because I get them from a store, but if I’m buying off of ebay I don’t mind paying a bit more for something hard to find if it’s been nicely preserved in package.

I can understand misb toy collectors for other lines, like action figures or hotwheels. It’s not for me, but I can understand it. Those things are nicely displayed in package already, and the main thing not being used is the articulation. But Transformers… Transformers are the rubiks cube of the toy world, leaving them misb is to ignore half of their design and most of their fun.

Once I get them, they don’t stay MISB for long… but some of them would like to.
