This is how I like to remember what happened in the 1986 Transformers movie.

Later, Wheeljack’s ghost would cobble together a catapult made of stardust and theology. The resulting explosion hurled them back to life.

The picture is mostly for lulz, but I like to think Perceptor just didn’t know how to do something as common as maintenance, whereas Wheeljack and Ratchet could’ve slapped together something out of spare parts to patch him up.
