MakeToys Green Giant vs Mech Ideas Geminus

This is not a post debating the ethics of transforming robots that resemble other transforming robots.

This is not a post debating whether MakeToys Green Giant Type-61 is better than TFC Hercules. (BadLamprey’s video on that subject is short, funny, and I completely agree with it.)

This is a post about one  little drill tank’s love of giant robot feet.

And yes, Green Giant actually is balanced on one foot without touching the back or the sides of the case. Geminus is propped up using one of Classics Ironhide’s guns.

We're gonna need a bigger shelf.

But while that display kicked ass, I have been known to bump into those bookcases… So hey, Giant still looks great with both feet on the shelf. :D

For those wondering, both Mech Ideas Geminus (and presumably Apex too, though I only bought Geminus) and MakeToys Giant Type-61 are highly recommended.

  1. I got the TFC/Herc version and while I do like him, he’s a bit of a loose chunk. I’m going to break down soon and take them all apart and do some serious hinge/joint work. I thought about getting the version you have and if money wasn’t an issue I would get that one too, especially since it seems like it fits the deluxe class better whereas the TFC guys are for the most part voyager size. If I put Herc in the same pose, he’d be head diving off the shelf!

As for the Geminus and Apex, I want them but again, it’s a money versus want of other bots issue. They seem pretty damn sweet and would flesh(ha!) out my Wreckers rank more.

  2. I was on the fence about which one to get for a while, if I was even going to get one. They’re both really cool TFs. I really like how the treads transform into the arms on TFC Hercules, and I liked the combined mode about as much as I like Green Giant’s.

The main thing I didn’t like about the TFC version was the way the Constructicons looked. I know a lot of people that really like that blocky, Cybertron-esque style, sort of like how I really like Animated and I know people that didn’t like that. But when I’m spending that much money on a TF, being nit-picky is a good thing. :)

On Green Giant, I really liked the bot modes and their alt modes, as well as the combined mode. And at first, I didn’t like how Bonecrusher and Scavenger didn’t really transform for combined mode, but I like what BadLamprey said about it in his video, that being a pile of construction equipment is Devastator’s schtick. So I’m okay with that.

While I think Green Giant fits in better with a Classics deluxe scale, I wouldn’t have had a problem with the Constructicons being voyagers. They’re construction equipment, so it’s okay if they’re big. But I was surprised at how big the Green Giant bots actually are. I was expecting small deluxes or big scouts, like Fansproject’s Swindle and Blast Off. But they’re actually big deluxes, with Mixmaster being about Voyager height.
